A New Year with an Unchanging Hope

As we approach the new year, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead. The world is a volatile place, and as a father of two young children, I often worry about the kind of world they will have to face.

But as I reflect on the past year and look ahead to what the future has in store, I am reminded of one thing that never changes: God. The Bible tells us that God is "the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). No matter what happens in the world or in our lives, we can trust that God is in control, even when it feels like everything is out of control!

As I enter the new year, I am filled with hope. I have hope because I know that God is with me every step of the way. He is my rock and my stronghold, and I can rely on His strength and guidance to get through whatever challenges that I may face this year.

One of my favorite passages that brings me comfort and hope is Psalm 46:1-3, which says: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."

Do I have concerns about the world my children will grow up in? Of course! However, no matter what kind of turmoil or chaos may come our way, we can trust that God is with us, and He will see us through. We don't have to fear. I don't have to fear. For I know that I have a loving and faithful God who will never leave me nor forsake me.

So, as we enter the new year, let us approach it with this hope and confidence: God is immutable. His unchanging nature means that the hope he has promised is unchanging. Let us rely on His strength and trust in His plan, even when we don't understand it. And let us give thanks for His faithfulness, which never changes.
